"To love and serve our neighbors as ourselves."

Martha and Mary House Celebrates Second Anniversary

Two hundred and ten lives have been changed since The Martha and Mary House opened its doors in Johnstown in March 2015.

That’s because The Martha and Mary House is more than a homeless shelter. It’s a program that teaches the necessary skills needed to reach self-sufficiency and safe, sustainable housing.

"We offer hope when hope has been lost," said Director and Lead Case Manager Danielle Bowers.

The homeless whom we’ve served come from many backgrounds. Families who’ve been evicted and have nowhere else to go; women escaping abusive relationships; veterans who have little more than the clothes on their backs. And the paths they take once they enter our doors are as unique as their stories.

"Each resident enrolled into the program works with our dedicated staff to reach financial and personal milestones and housing," said Bowers. "When you see them make positive steps toward creating the life they desire and reaching each milestone, you are proud of what they have accomplished and look forward to seeing where else their journey is going to take them."

The Martha and Mary House does more than just assist homeless Cambria County residents with rebuilding their lives. It benefits the entire community by partnering with other agencies to build self-confidence and teaching skills that will work toward ending the war on poverty.

"We continue to strive to change the community's perception of what a shelter is," said Bowers.

The community is invited to learn more about The Martha and Mary House and how it is positively transforming lives and the community at an open house on March 7. Click here to learn more.
